What are the best Low rise luxury condos in Toronto?

Main Post:

Anyone recommend or know of any luxury low rise condo building, I’m interested in purchasing , preferably close to transit, amenities in Toronto. Not interested in Yonge and Eglinton or esplanade area. What are the best low rise luxury buildings?

Top Comment: Low rise development is super underrated here in Toronto. 9-floors and less makes for really nice density. I wish we had more of it.

Who are the new luxury condos in downtown Kitchener for?

Main Post:

I really don't mean to offend anyone (hence why I am posting here and not r/kitchener) but would like to learn something about the region and get a discussion going. I am new to the area and encountered lots of new developments in downtown Kitchener after doing an apartment / condo search.

Downtown Kitchener seems dramatically less "well-off" than Waterloo, yet their asking condo purchase/rental prices are close to those in Waterloo. Which leads me to wonder, who are these new developments for? Sure there's a few tech companies like Google, but is that industry really enough of a market for all these $500K purchase / $2K rent prices? Even if so, why are so many new developments going up there rather than in Waterloo, which arguably is a nicer place to live at present?

Top Comment: 500k condos are common in both Kitchener and Waterloo already

Why are people so against building luxury condos?

Main Post:

I feel like there’s a sentiment here where people are against developers building market luxury condos or “shoe box” condos. I understand that most people do not want to live in these.

But it seems like people making high income are competing with low income individuals to live in a 20 year old apartments with no AC. Wouldn’t these luxury condos move high income people away from the lower end market so rents prices can be better for lower income individuals because of less competition?

How about just building suitably sized affordable housing for the majority of us?

1600 bucks per month, 200 more for parking, and you don't even get a bedroom window. Pass

Luxury condo?

Main Post:

This floorplan is being advertised in my mid-size Midwestern city as a “luxury condo”. This is the 2-bedroom model - there is also a 1- bedroom version. The 2- bedroom is $345k. To me, “luxury” means being able to fit more than 2 people in the living room, and not having the laundry closet open off the dining room. Curious to know what you all think.

Luxury can mean the level of quality of the fixtures and finishes.

Iconic Toronto view about to be significantly altered

Main Post:

There are many Torontonians who know this view very well as it's one of the most iconic ones in the city, and even tourists who visit the city come to love this view and take dozens of photos when they come around this area.

Ladies and gentlemen, the view i'm referring to is the where Front/Wellington St intersect at Church St. This vista offers views of the spectacular Gooderham Building and Brookfield Place, with the CN Tower as a backdrop. As it currently stands, Brookfield is proposing to develop a 52 storey condo (172 metres tall) at 20-22 Front St W. Originally this site was going to be the site of a 3rd Tower of the Brookfield Place complex (the 3rd tower was going to match the architectural design of the previous 2 towers built) but that plan was put on hold and ultimately scrapped. Now Brookfield is proposing to build a tower here, however they're not even attempting to build a tower that looks even somewhat decent, let alone one that tries to blend in to the historical gems around it in the 2 existing towers of Brookfield Place.

If any of you are just a disgusted in the proposal as I am, feel free to make your thoughts known. The proposal is still in the very early stages.

Here is a link to the development application where you can your comments/thoughts known, city council has not yet made a decision to approve this proposal so there is a way to have this proposal changed and let Brookfield know about how disgusting this is:https://www.toronto.ca/city-government/planning-development/application-details/?id=5265451&pid=206966

Alternatively you can contact Brookfield directly and let them know about how you feel. Starting with their CEO Bruce Flatt.

Also, here are some photos of the proposed abomination that Brookfield is planning on building:
